2016 Goals

2016 Goals

  1. Pay off car – It’s important to me to live debt free so that I have the security and freedom from “things” and bills. Ultimately I would like to be able to retire in a paid for small house on some land and enjoy traveling and growing things.
  2. Read a book a month – Over the years I have lost my drive to read and I think that was an outward sign illustrating my mental state. Too much chaos filled my head and my emotions to allow room for anything else. As I again make room for my love of books, it will help me be on an even keel.
    1. ½ Marathon training
    2. White Walls
    3. Everything that Remains
    4. Dave Ramsey – Total Money Make Over
    5. Where Will You Be Five Years from Today?

    12. Getting Past Your Breakup

  3. Volunteer 30 hours – As I work to look outside of myself and expand my world, I think it’s important to give something back to the community and think of more than myself.

  4. Complete a project a month – I have so many “someday” things in my life that I have decided to just do it Nike styleJ I see things that I want to learn to make and things that I think others would enjoy but I don’t follow through. I want to see these things be made.
    1. Denim quilt – I spent hours cutting all those little squares. It’s time for them to fulfill their destiny.
    2. Megan’s lace scarf – I saw this item on Megan’s Pinterest page and knew I could make it for her. I have all the material and it’s been sitting around since last year. It’s time for it to come to fruition.
    3. Mom’s Temp scarf – I saw this and I thought my mother would really enjoy the time it took to research and make. I looked up the temperature in the town she was born in. For each’s temperature day of the first year of her life I have assigned a color. Each day will have its own row.
    4. Christmas stocking – Once again I have all the material and it’s just sitting around gathering dust. Originally I planned on giving it to my sister in law Kindra. I don’t think I want to keep it and the Heilperns have cross stitched stockings for each family member. Their grandmother made them and I think Kindra should have one too.
    5. Mickey Mouse quilt – I have all the material for this and it’s 70% completed but is just sitting around not being finished. I picked out the pattern for my niece because my sister in law loves Disney and because her son named his new sister “Mouse”. It’s frustrating that I made a mistake on the color progression and I’m struggling with it not being exactly how I wanted it.
    6. Tribuchet – I just want to make one. It looks cool.
    7. Toothless hoodie – I’ve talked about making this since the movie came out. To be honest, originally I planned on keeping it, but at this point in my life I don’t really feel like wearing a hoodie shaped like a dragon. I’m pretty sure I can find a home for it among my nieces. I also have all the material for this project. Yes, there is a theme.
    8. Boat sling – I made my boat but it’s a little awkward to carry. The sling with make it more useable.
    9. Unicorn flower head piece – Got most of the material just sitting around my house. I planned on making it for one of my nieces or a friends little girl.
    10. Penny keychain – Megan had this on her Pinterest board. Last year I found all the pennies and even got the holes drilled but then they were misplaced. I have found more pennies cast in important years of her life.
  5. Send birthday cards on time – I want to work on my interpersonal relationships and sending cards is important to let them know they are important to me. Everyone loves snail mail.
  6. Find 52 geocaches – Geocaching is another activity that I enjoy that fell by the wayside. It’s great because it’s free and it gets me outside and in areas I have been before.
    1. 12
  7. Hide 5 geocaches – I’ve looked for geocaches but haven’t really contributed by hiding any.
  8. Journal 3 times a week – I would like to have an outlet for my brain that isn’t public. I’m private with my emotions but know that I need to get them out of my head and work through them.
  9. Open ROTH IRA account – Financial stability for the future
  10. Attend local foraging class – I like knowing I can take care of myself and I like eating. It’s a topic I find interesting and engaging. It also gets me outside.

  12. Travel to Bangkok – I missed the opportunity to visit Matthew when he lived in Beirut and am determined not to continue missing those opportunities. Plus, I like him and want to see him. I know it’s hard when people always expect YOU to travel to them.
  13. Run the Bangkok marathon – If I’m on vacation I should at least run a race!
  14. Run a 3:25 marathon – Before my foot broke, I really felt like this was a possibility. I’m not willing to let it go and feel like I might actually be getting some of my speed back.
  15. Run a 1:40 half marathon
    1. 1:43:53
    2. 3:25:53

    1. Feature a new workout each week on my blog
    2. Stretch my hip daily.

What I want out of 2016 is to feel confident in myself. I want to be able to look in the mirror and see someone I recognize and like. To do that I need to work on accomplishing measurable goals so that I can SEE the direction my actions are taking me. I want to be a creative person, a kind person, a generous person. I want to feel like an athlete, someone who is above average in their results. I want to feel capable in my life. To do this I want to have a house that can have company over without prefacing that I haven’t cleaned. I want to have a regular schedule for my housekeeping so that I’m not spending hours deep cleaning once things get unbearable.
